I love this time of year! There’s nothing more fun to me than festive get togethers and buying gifts for my nearest and dearest. But with all of the parties, shopping and the rest the holiday trappings, it’s easy to get swept up and find yourself partied out and exhausted come New Year.
Since I’m not about to give up on getting swept up in the Christmas spirit, I’ve found a way to incorporate a time of reflection that really sets me up for the year to come.
Since starting my business 5 years ago, I’ve devoted one afternoon (between Christmas and New Year) to reflect on what I’ve done in the past year and what I want to achieve in the coming year.
I write down both my professional and my personal goals (after they’re all interconnected) and I file them away.
Sometimes, I’ll review it during the year (to see if I’m on track) and sometimes I won’t look at it until the following year, but one thing is constant – I’m always surprised by how many goals I achieve.
So why not try a little reflection with your eggnog this year? If nothing else, it’ll buy you an afternoon of peace and quiet!
Happy Holidays to you all and I’ll see you in 2011.
